Pride goes virtual at HSBC
In many countries June sees people gather for Pride events to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) community. Now, more than ever, we’re determined to highlight our commitment to diversity and inclusion.
This year many of the parades are not taking place because of the COVID-19 pandemic. But HSBC is still marking the occasion.
On 10 June the bank will be showing its support for customers and colleagues from the LGBT+ community with ‘24 Hours of Pride’ – a series of local and global virtual events. These will take place across the world, from New Zealand to Canada, and employees will be able to join in from their own homes.
Charlie Nunn, Chief Executive of the bank’s Wealth and Personal Banking business and Global Executive Sponsor of Pride, the bank’s LGBT+ employee network, is speaking in several panel sessions across the day.
Mr Nunn said: “We continue to work to make HSBC a place where all colleagues feel they can be themselves, and where different perspectives help us to serve our customers better. 24 Hours of Pride is an opportunity for us to bring people together to share their experiences and spark conversations around LGBT+ inclusion.”
Throughout the day, HSBC employees from the LGBT+ community will share their experiences of being ‘out’ in the workplace in online discussions. They will talk about the challenges – and opportunities – of being their authentic selves at work.
Employees who want to show their support for LGBT+ colleagues and customers as allies will also discuss the steps that people are taking to create a more inclusive environment.
