HSBC Now Photo – winners for “Protect”

Last month’s #HSBCPhotographer theme was ‘Protect’. These photos show how our colleagues interpreted the theme.
Do you have an idea for next month’s category? Give us your one-word suggestions in the comments below!
Here are our top 3 for this month. See the top 10 in the gallery below. Congratulations to all!
🏆 1st place – Francesco, HSBC Luxembourg
🏆 2nd place – Nitesh, HSBC India
🏆 3rd place – Jitendra, HSBC India
Francesco, HSBC Luxembourg: “I was on my way to visit the Ganga Talao in Mauritius when we stopped by to feed some monkeys and I noted this mom protecting her puppy while keeping a safe distance from us.” Jury’s comment: “This photo fits the theme so perfectly. There is no stronger relationship than parents and their children. The way the monkeys are set back and hiding amongst the trees gives a brilliant voyeuristic quality to the image.” Nitesh, HSBC India: “This is not only a ritual of marriage, it is more about taking new responsibility and to a vow to protect and support your better half in all situations.” Jury’s comment: “This photo tells such an enchanting story of a wedding day and a family’s support. It fills you with love and happiness! The hints of gold and red throughout the photo create warmth.” Jitendra, HSBC India: “The farmer of this field laid a wide net to protect his crops from the birds. Isn’t it amazing the amount of hard work the farmer has put in to deliver us their best production?” Jury’s comment: “A fantastic interpretation of the theme! At first glance, the shimmering nets appear to be water. There is such a wide variety of greens in the image, it feels as though it’s bursting with life.” Kalpa, HSBC Sri Lanka: “To be in your child’s memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today. Every child deserves the protection of loving parents.“ Jury’s comment: “The parents guiding the child up the stairs serves as a metaphor for how parents help us overcome obstacles.” Dinesh, HSBC India: “Eliminate the darkness, bring on the brightness and let us protect the world for the future.” Jury’s comment: “The sun really does act as the light in the photograph. Love the use of the silhouette, which sets off the detail in the image.” Biren, HSBC India: “Miles away from Tibet, Buddhist monks in Southern India offer their services at this monastery to keep alive and protect their culture.” Jury’s comment: “A wonderful interpretation of the theme. The colours in this photo are striking and mesmerising.” John, HSBC UK: “This photo was taken at dawn at Machu Picchu, at the climax of a 4-day trek. Once the first rays of light broke through the clouds, the full majesty of the Inca citadel was revealed, protected by the soaring peaks and guarding its secrets over the centuries.“ Jury’s comment: “The remoteness of the fort in this photo clearly offered protection to those who lived there. The clouds rolling over the mountains creates a haunting feeling, like a storm is brewing…” Rojy, HSBC MENA: “It was a typical road trip through the western regions of Abu Dhabi until we encountered this large caravan of camels. They all stopped when they saw human activity and it seemed they were searching for someone… then their caretaker came, their guide, their protector. The camel herder is a very common sight in deserts here but they are looked up to by the caravan for protection and care… “ Jury’s comment: “Fantastic use of colours in this photo! The size of the human and the camel in contrast to the vast dessert makes the audience feel small and reminds you of how both camel and human need each other to survive.” — with Rojy A Varghese. Nicole, HSBC Hong Kong: “Phalacrocorax rests on a wooden post. This scene is so beautiful; we need to protect our ecology. “ Jury’s comment: “The slight graininess of the photo transports the audience back in time. It gives the effect that you are looking at a photo from 30 years ago!”
