Roy, HSBC China: “The light tracks on the bridge represent people commuting from north to south, and from the top of the mountain to the bottom.”Jury’s comment: “This photo gives the impression that the viewer is being carried along on a journey into the future, along with all of the dynamic paths of light.”
Salil, HSBC India: “Commuting through silent waters of Kashmir. This shot was taken on the silent Nigeen Lake, adjacent to the Hari Parbat hillock. Taken from one of the Shikara boats, from which small traders sell flowers, fruits and vegetables.” Jury’s comment: “This photo really highlights the variety in types of commute and commuter around the world. The mountain in the background makes the subjects in the photo appear so small by comparison.”
Desmond, HSBC Hong Kong: “It is a week day morning at Shinagawa station and people are on their way to work. There is a lot of advertising competing for their attention, but they are in a hurry to get to work.” Jury’s comment: “The composition of this photo is very striking. The urban & architectural symmetry lends it a mesmerizing quality.”
Aditya, HSBC India “This is normal day Hong Kong. People are rushing to their work place by using difference commuting mode like Walk, Car, Bus, tram.” Jury’s comment: “This image is filled with the buzz of the commute, and manages to convey so many forms of transportation and journey in such a small space.”
Venkat, HSBC India “Autorickshaw is one of the most convenient & economical modes of commute in India” Jury’s comment: “The in motion shot really highlights the Rickshaw as the focal point, and gives the impression that the viewer is travelling alongside the subjects.”
Kevin, HSBC UK: “Was taken on the busy “Woodhead Pass” between Manchester and Sheffield, a busy commuter route. I felt that this reflected the busy hustle and bustle of the Commute, where we often don’t get to appreciate our surroundings as we go to and from work.” Jury’s Comment: “The striking contrast between vast and rolling nature and the urban development of the road is very dramatic, and conveys a real sense of journey”
Gregory, HSBC UK: “Your commute can be a mundane and routine affair to the extent that beauty can pass you by without realising. I mixed up my routine this day and went a different route, very glad I did..” Jury’s Comment: “An iconic image of the city of London, where the city itself stands out, yet it is the people and commuters who are the true focus.”
Chattie, HSBC Philippines: “With miles of coastline, wooden boats are one of the main means of transportation in the Philippines.” Jury’s Comment: “The different tones of blue in this photo are remarkable, with the sea almost blending into the sky. It gives a real sense of a journey to be travelled.”
Alison, HSBC China: “Morning walk to work during… Shanghai’s Spring” Jury’s Comment: “There is a lovely juxtaposition of the tall, powerful city skyscrapers and the delicateness of the cherry blossom. The framing really brings out the skyscrapers as being the journey’s ultimate destination.”
Subha, HSBC India: “I walk along a lonely lane with my camera and i come across this abandoned Lambretta. Once a commute for the rich and stylish, time has caught up to this beauty. I felt compelled to document the last days of this forgotten Lambretta.” Jury’s Comment: “There’s a lovely meaning behind this photo, and you can feel the emotion and nostalgia of it in the colours, textures and composition of the image.”
