Happiness, togetherness, reunion – Chinese New Year represents many different things to the millions of people who celebrate it around the world each year.

In a new video HSBC employees talk about what the Lunar New Year means to them and how they prepare for the most important festival of the Chinese calendar.

Chinese officials estimate that in the 40 days around the festive period there will be 3 billion trips by rail, land, air and sea as China witnesses its annual mass migration of people.

“From Guangzhou to Shenyang, from the south to the north, from green surroundings to a white landscape – travelling through half of China, it’s always going to be a fascinating journey,” says one HSBC employee in the video.

The journey may be long but at the end, she says, is the promise of good food, firecrackers and celebrations with friends and family.

HSBC will also be celebrating the Year of the Rooster with traditional lion dances and a range of other events at offices and branches around the world.
